In the streets of New York City, a homeless man from Japan named Hamato Yoshi is walking down into the alley where he picks up the book that is about the art of ninjutsu. But due to an incidental encounter with a brown rat, Hamato Yoshi is exposed to the strange green ooze which turned him into a humanoid rat. Yoshi must learn to survive the life of a mutant on the run while following the pair of mysterious hooded figures who are revealed to be two mutant turtles: a male and a female. They are holding their four infant sons while trying to run from two men dressed in black suits. Finally, they come down into the sewers, where Yoshi watches as the Turtles' parents put them in the cardboard box to hide and protect them and then run away; hearing the two men coming. Then, they are captured by them and subdued by electrocution; much to Yoshi's shock and the Turtles' dismay.
